Welcome to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, MSC Cruises’ private island paradise in The Bahamas! Think powdery white sand, unbelievably blue water, palm trees, beach bars, snorkeling, watersports and plenty of places to simply kick back and do absolutely nothing.
Unlike many cruise ports, there’s no tender boat and no busy city waiting on the other side. Your ship docks directly at Ocean Cay, so you can walk straight off the ship and onto the island—and return to the ship whenever you’d like while you’re in port.
Whether your perfect day involves snorkeling, jet skiing, a beachside massage, cocktails by the water or finding a quiet stretch of sand, Ocean Cay is one of those ports where you really don't need an excursion to have an amazing day
.
Ocean Cay isn't simply a private beach destination. MSC transformed the former industrial site into a marine-focused island destination surrounded by protected waters.
The island is also home to the MSC Foundation's Super Coral Programme, where scientists are working with heat-resilient coral and offshore coral nurseries to help restore the surrounding marine environment. Ocean Cay has also been designated a Mission Blue Hope Spot for its importance to ocean conservation.
So while you're enjoying those gorgeous turquoise waters, remember—you’re visiting somewhere designed around protecting them, too.
Ocean Cay has several beaches, and each has its own personality. MSC's current destination information highlights eight beach areas, giving you plenty of choices depending on whether you're looking for activity, family-friendly water or somewhere quieter.
One of the best choices for an easy swimming day.
North Beach sits along the protected lagoon and offers shallow, clear water that is great for swimming, floating and relaxing. It's also one of the larger beach areas and puts you close to watersport activities.
Great for:
Families • Swimming • Relaxing • Watersports
Located across the lagoon from North Beach, South Beach offers another spacious area for swimming and water activities.
It's a great choice if you want a traditional Caribbean beach day without trekking all the way across the island.
Great for:
Swimming • Families • Watersports • Easy beach days
Traveling with kids? Put this one on your list.
Seakers Cove was specifically designed with families in mind, offering shallow, calm water along with dedicated family entertainment and activities.
Great for:
Families • Younger children • Calm water • Beach games
If you'd rather spread out and escape some of the busier areas, head toward Sunset Beach.
It's the longest stretch of beach on Ocean Cay and, as the name suggests, is especially beautiful later in the day when your ship has a late departure.
Great for:
Long beach walks • Relaxing • Couples • Sunset views
Located farther from the ship, Bimini Beach rewards the extra walk with wide ocean views and a more relaxed atmosphere.
Because it's farther from the main arrival area, it can be a good option when you're looking for a little more breathing room.
Great for:
Quiet beach time • Ocean views • Relaxing
Want peace and quiet?
Paradise Sands sits near the Ocean Cay Spa and is designed as one of the island's more tranquil areas. It's especially convenient if you're planning a beachside massage.
Great for:
Couples • Relaxing • Spa days • Quiet time
One of the most recognizable areas on Ocean Cay!
Lighthouse Bay sits beside Ocean Cay's iconic red-and-white lighthouse and is also the closest beach area to the ship. You'll find entertainment here during the day, along with seating areas, beanbags and beautiful lighthouse views.
If your ship stays late, come back after dark for the LED Lighthouse Show and evening entertainment.
Great for:
First-time visitors • Photos • Entertainment • Easy access to the ship
This one is exclusively for MSC Yacht Club guests.
Ocean House Beach provides a more upscale private-island experience with its own restaurant and bar, beach amenities and butler service for Yacht Club guests.
Best for families: North Beach or Seakers Cove
Best for swimming: North Beach or South Beach
Best for relaxing: Bimini Beach or Paradise Sands
Best for photos: Lighthouse Bay Beach
Best for couples: Sunset Beach or Paradise Sands
Best if you don't want to walk far: Lighthouse Bay Beach
Best luxury option: Ocean House Beach — MSC Yacht Club guests only
You definitely don't have to return to the ship every time you're hungry.
Ocean Cay has a complimentary main buffet plus food trucks located around the island.
This is the island's main complimentary buffet.
Expect casual beach-day food with a mix of Caribbean and American favorites such as:
It's an easy choice when everyone in your group wants something different.
Don't feel like leaving the beach for the buffet?
Food trucks are scattered around Ocean Cay.
MSC currently lists five food trucks—four offering complimentary food and one offering specialty items for an additional charge. Complimentary trucks generally serve casual favorites such as hamburgers and hot dogs, while premium choices can include items such as lobster rolls and crab ceviche salad.
💡 Watch the Menu
Not everything you see at a food truck is necessarily included.
If something sounds a little more premium than a burger or hot dog, check for a price before ordering.
Located near Sunset Beach and South Beach, the Boho Buffet—also referred to as Boho House or Boho Grill—is a complimentary beachside dining option on Ocean Cay.
It’s a convenient spot to grab lunch without heading back to the ship, with a casual selection of island barbecue, Caribbean-inspired dishes and American favorites.
Food is complimentary, and qualifying MSC beverage packages can be used for eligible drinks according to your package rules.
💡 JoJo’s Tip
If you’re spending your day around South Beach or Sunset Beach, Boho Buffet is an easy lunch stop—grab a plate, refuel and get right back to your beach day!
Craving something sweet or a specialty coffee while you're on Ocean Cay?
The Smiling Fish is not included in the standard cruise fare or basic island access, so purchases here cost extra.
You’ll typically find:
Soft-serve ice cream
Specialty fish-shaped waffle cones
Premium coffee drinks
Espresso-based beverages
Approximate pricing is usually around $4–$9 for ice cream and $3–$4.75 for specialty coffee, although prices can change.
☕ Have a Drink Package?
If you have MSC’s Premium Extra Drink Package, eligible specialty coffees may be included under the normal beverage-package rules.
Other beverage packages may have different restrictions, so check your package details or ask before ordering.
💡 JoJo’s Tip
Think of The Smiling Fish as a treat stop, not one of Ocean Cay’s complimentary food locations.
If you’re looking for included food, head to Seakers Food Court or one of the complimentary food trucks instead.
Ocean Cay has multiple bars scattered throughout the island, so you won't have to walk back to the ship whenever margarita o'clock arrives.
Popular spots include:
Located near Ocean Cay’s iconic lighthouse, the Lighthouse Bar is the perfect spot to grab a tropical cocktail while enjoying beautiful views of the beach and turquoise water. It’s especially convenient if you’re relaxing around Lighthouse Bay or staying for the evening entertainment.
A more laid-back Bahamian-style bar near the marina.
Complimentary water is available at bars and buffet locations, and water fountains are located near island restrooms.
.
Here's the good news:
MSC's Premium Extra Beverage Package can be used on Ocean Cay for qualifying non-alcoholic and select alcoholic beverages.
That means you can enjoy much of your island day without feeling like you're starting a brand-new bar tab ashore.
Just remember that package rules still apply and certain premium or specialty items may carry an additional charge.
You absolutely do not need an excursion at Ocean Cay.
Simply walking off the ship, grabbing a chair and enjoying the beach can make for a fantastic—and inexpensive—port day.
But if you want more adventure, MSC offers plenty of options.
Take a guided boat ride from Ocean Cay to explore nearby shipwrecks, coral reefs and marine life beneath the beautiful Bahamian waters. This adventure lasts approximately 2 hours and is a great choice for guests who want to experience more than snorkeling right off the beach.
Paddle your way around Ocean Cay's beautiful protected waters.
MSC offers equipment and excursions that can include:
Availability varies by sailing.
Want something a little faster?
Guided jet ski experiences are available on select visits and are one of the more adventurous ways to explore the waters surrounding Ocean Cay.
Certified divers may find scuba experiences offered depending on the sailing and conditions.
Check the MSC for Me app or Shore Excursions desk for what is available during your specific visit.
Want one of the best views on the island?
Ocean Cay's lighthouse climb takes you 165 steps up for panoramic views across the island and surrounding Bahamian waters.
Bring your camera—and maybe catch your breath first!
Vacation level: upgraded.
The Ocean Cay Spa offers massage treatments in beachside treatment huts near Paradise Sands, looking out over the water.
If "excursion" sounds exhausting but "massage with an ocean view" sounds perfect...you've found your activity.
If your itinerary gives you an evening or late-night stay at Ocean Cay, take advantage of it.
Check the MSC for Me app or Daily Program for your exact entertainment times.
Ocean Cay's lighthouse transforms after dark with a colorful LED show set to music.
On select evening visits, Lighthouse Beach turns into a nighttime beach party with a DJ and dancing on the sand.
Sunbeds are complimentary.
Umbrellas and cabanas may carry an additional charge, and availability can vary by beach. Lighthouse Beach has a more limited number of umbrellas and seating options.
💡 Don't Wait Forever
If you have your heart set on a certain location—especially when the ship is full—head ashore earlier and choose your beach before settling in for breakfast number two.
Not Everything Is Complimentary
Beach access and many food options are included, but things such as:
may cost extra.
Always ask before assuming something is included.
There are a lot of things to love about this stop.
✅ No Tender Boats
The ship docks directly at Ocean Cay, so getting ashore is much easier than at a tender port.
✅ Come & Go From the Ship
Forgot something in your cabin?
Want lunch onboard?
Need a break from the sun?
You can return to the ship and come back ashore while the ship is docked. Just make sure you have your cruise card with you.
✅ You Don't Have to Spend Money
Between complimentary beaches, sunbeds, the Seakers buffet and complimentary food trucks, you can easily enjoy Ocean Cay without buying an excursion.
✅ Restrooms Around the Island
Restrooms are available near the beach areas and are marked on the island maps and signs.
✅ Wi-Fi Is Available
Ocean Cay has Wi-Fi coverage for guests with qualifying MSC internet packages.
✅ Accessible Options
MSC states that Ocean Cay is ADA compliant, and beach wheelchairs can be requested at the pier upon disembarkation.
Ocean Cay is one of the easier ports you'll visit, but there are still a few things worth knowing.
☀️ The Bahamian Sun ☀️
You can spend hours outside without realizing just how much sun you've had.
Bring:
MSC also sells biodegradable, reef-safe sunscreen products on the island.
Reapply sunscreen after swimming—even if you swear you "never burn."
On late-night calls, don't assume swimming continues after dark.
MSC gradually closes beaches in the late afternoon, beginning with the areas farthest from the ship, and closes its swimming beaches before sundown. Lighthouse Beach is typically among the final beach areas to close.
The party may continue—but the swimming doesn't.
Ocean Cay is larger than it appears from the ship.
If you're heading toward one of the farther beaches, wear comfortable sandals or water shoes instead of assuming you'll be barefoot all day.
This is a marine reserve, not just another beach stop.
Avoid touching coral or marine life, leave shells and natural features where you find them, don't leave trash behind and choose reef-conscious products whenever possible.
Ocean Cay's surrounding waters are actively used for coral conservation and restoration efforts.
Ocean Cay may seem like the perfect place for drone footage—but don't launch it.
MSC's current Guest Conduct Policy specifically states that drones may not be used at Ocean Cay Marine Reserve.
Stick with your phone or camera for those lighthouse shots.
Keep it simple.
Remember—you can always return to the ship if you forget something.
Want an easy day without overplanning it?
Morning:
Get off reasonably early and head toward North Beach, South Beach or Bimini Beach before settling in.
Late Morning:
Swim, snorkel, paddleboard or just enjoy the water.
Lunch:
Grab complimentary food at Seakers Food Court or one of the included food trucks.
Afternoon:
Explore the island, grab a drink, visit the lighthouse area or schedule a massage.
Late Afternoon:
Start making your way back toward Lighthouse Bay as the farther beaches begin closing.
Evening—if your ship stays late:
Grab dinner or a drink, enjoy the sunset, then stick around for the Lighthouse LED Show and beach entertainment.
That's a pretty fantastic cruise day without ever leaving MSC's island.
Don't overschedule Ocean Cay.
This is the port where it's perfectly acceptable to have absolutely no plan beyond:
Find beach → Find drink → Find food → Get in water → Repeat.
Take an excursion if something really excites you, but leave yourself enough time to actually enjoy the island.
Ocean Cay is beautiful because it lets you slow down, kick off your shoes and enjoy exactly what you came to the Caribbean for—warm sunshine, clear blue water and a gorgeous beach just steps from your ship.
