MSC Ocean Cay Marine Reserve
A Private Island Experience—Effortless, Relaxing, Unforgettable
A beautifully restored marine reserve where every moment feels easy and unhurried

Welcome to Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve, MSC Cruises’ private island paradise in The Bahamas! Think powdery white sand, unbelievably blue water, palm trees, beach bars, snorkeling, watersports and plenty of places to simply kick back and do absolutely nothing.

Unlike many cruise ports, there’s no tender boat and no busy city waiting on the other side. Your ship docks directly at Ocean Cay, so you can walk straight off the ship and onto the island—and return to the ship whenever you’d like while you’re in port.

Whether your perfect day involves snorkeling, jet skiing, a beachside massage, cocktails by the water or finding a quiet stretch of sand, Ocean Cay is one of those ports where you really don't need an excursion to have an amazing day

.

Why Ocean Cay Is Special

Ocean Cay isn't simply a private beach destination. MSC transformed the former industrial site into a marine-focused island destination surrounded by protected waters.

The island is also home to the MSC Foundation's Super Coral Programme, where scientists are working with heat-resilient coral and offshore coral nurseries to help restore the surrounding marine environment. Ocean Cay has also been designated a Mission Blue Hope Spot for its importance to ocean conservation.

So while you're enjoying those gorgeous turquoise waters, remember—you’re visiting somewhere designed around protecting them, too.

Beaches May Close Before the Island Does

On late-night calls, don't assume swimming continues after dark.

MSC gradually closes beaches in the late afternoon, beginning with the areas farthest from the ship, and closes its swimming beaches before sundown. Lighthouse Beach is typically among the final beach areas to close.

The party may continue—but the swimming doesn't.

There's More Walking Than It Looks Like

Ocean Cay is larger than it appears from the ship.

If you're heading toward one of the farther beaches, wear comfortable sandals or water shoes instead of assuming you'll be barefoot all day.

Respect the Marine Environment

This is a marine reserve, not just another beach stop.

Avoid touching coral or marine life, leave shells and natural features where you find them, don't leave trash behind and choose reef-conscious products whenever possible.

Ocean Cay's surrounding waters are actively used for coral conservation and restoration efforts.

Leave the Drone Packed Away

Ocean Cay may seem like the perfect place for drone footage—but don't launch it.

MSC's current Guest Conduct Policy specifically states that drones may not be used at Ocean Cay Marine Reserve.

Stick with your phone or camera for those lighthouse shots.

What Should You Bring Ashore?

Keep it simple.

  • Cruise card
  • Phone
  • Waterproof phone pouch
  • Reef-friendly sunscreen
  • Sunglasses
  • Hat
  • Swimsuit
  • Cover-up
  • Flip-flops or water shoes
  • Beach bag
  • Towel
  • Reusable water bottle
  • Small amount of spending money or your preferred payment method
  • Snorkel gear if you prefer using your own basic mask/snorkel setup and it complies with MSC policies
  • A change of dry clothes if you plan to stay ashore into the evening

Remember—you can always return to the ship if you forget something.

One Last Tip...

Don't overschedule Ocean Cay.

This is the port where it's perfectly acceptable to have absolutely no plan beyond:

Find beach → Find drink → Find food → Get in water → Repeat.

Take an excursion if something really excites you, but leave yourself enough time to actually enjoy the island.

Ocean Cay is beautiful because it lets you slow down, kick off your shoes and enjoy exactly what you came to the Caribbean for—warm sunshine, clear blue water and a gorgeous beach just steps from your ship.

Ready for Your Ocean Cay Day?

Pack your swimsuit, grab your sunscreen and get ready to enjoy one of MSC's most beautiful stops.

Explore a little. Relax a lot. And don't forget to look back at that incredible view of your ship sitting beside the turquoise Bahamian water before you head onboard.
