Princess Weddings FAQ

Everything You Need to Know Before Saying “I Do” at Sea

Are Princess weddings legal or symbolic?

Princess offers both legal and symbolic At-Sea wedding ceremonies. Legal At-Sea ceremonies are performed by the ship’s Captain in international waters under Bermuda law. Symbolic ceremonies offer the celebration without creating a legal marriage.

Who performs the wedding ceremony?

At-Sea wedding ceremonies are performed by the ship’s Captain, giving couples the classic Princess wedding-at-sea experience.

When will we know our ceremony time and location?

Princess Perfect Weddings will work with you to confirm your ceremony arrangements. Current At-Sea ceremony times are generally 11:00 AM, 12:30 PM, 2:00 PM, or 3:30 PM, subject to availability and the ship’s itinerary. Specific venue requests can be made but are not guaranteed.

When do we pay for the wedding?

The wedding package is due in full when the wedding is booked. Additional wedding options and enhancements must currently be selected and paid in full no later than 60 days before sailing.

How far in advance should we plan our Princess wedding?

Planning earlier gives you the best opportunity for your preferred options. Princess requires wedding selections and enhancements to be finalized at least 60 days before sailing. Weddings may occasionally be accepted within 60 days based on availability, but Princess currently charges a $250 late-booking fee when applicable.

Who helps us plan everything?

Before sailing, you'll work with a Princess Perfect Weddings shoreside coordinator on your ceremony and reception arrangements. Once onboard, the ship’s Events & Guest Services Supervisor becomes your onboard wedding-event coordinator and reviews the wedding details with you.

Can we personalize our ceremony and reception?

Yes. Depending on your package, ship and itinerary, Princess offers additional options such as dining, cocktail hours, small bites, live music, photography and legal extras. Available selections must currently be finalized at least 60 days before sailing.

Can we bring our own decorations?

Small personal decorations may be permitted as long as they do not damage the ceremony venue or its furnishings. Couples should discuss anything they plan to bring with their Princess Perfect Weddings coordinator beforehand.

Can we bring our own photographer, florist, cake or entertainment?

Generally, outside professional wedding services are not permitted, including outside photography, videography, entertainment, cakes, beverages and fresh flowers. Special requests may be considered by Princess Perfect Weddings and Princess on a case-by-case basis.

When will we receive our official marriage certificate?

Princess currently advises allowing approximately 12–16 weeks for a certified marriage-certificate copy to arrive after the wedding, or approximately 12–18 weeks for international mailings. The keepsake certificate received onboard is not the official legal marriage certificate.

What is an Apostille, and will we need one?

An Apostille authenticates the Bermuda marriage certificate for certain official international uses. Whether you need one depends on where you live and how your marriage documentation will be used. Princess currently notes that couples residing in places such as Europe, Australia and New Zealand commonly require one.

Do we receive priority boarding?

Embarkation-day wedding couples receive priority boarding. Priority boarding does not currently apply to At-Sea or Ashore wedding options.

Can non-sailing guests attend an embarkation-day wedding?

When non-sailing guests are permitted for the applicable wedding arrangements, Princess requires identifying information including each guest's name, date of birth, nationality and valid driver's license or passport information so they can be cleared to board.

What should we know about bringing wedding items onboard?

For an embarkation-day wedding, you and your guests should carry wedding items onboard rather than placing them in checked luggage, since checked bags may not reach your stateroom before the ceremony. Port customs also prohibit bringing certain items aboard, including fresh food, meats, flowers and plants.

Does Princess perform same-sex weddings at sea?

Princess's current FAQ states that Bermuda law does not permit same-sex legal ceremonies onboard while at sea, although Princess welcomes symbolic ceremonies and its wedding coordinators can help couples explore options that comply with the applicable jurisdiction, including possible ashore arrangements.

What happens if the itinerary affects our wedding?

Cruise itineraries and ship operations can change. If circumstances require the wedding date, time or venue to change, Princess Perfect Weddings and Princess will work with the couple to identify an alternative arrangement. Their full wedding agreement governs cancellations, refunds and circumstances beyond their control.

Can DreamCrafters Travels plan my Princess wedding?

DreamCrafters Travels can help plan the cruise side of your celebration, including selecting your sailing, itinerary and staterooms and coordinating travel for family and friends.
